Flowers are one of the most important aspects of a wedding; I have never attended or officiated at a wedding without them! From the smallest elopement to the grandest ceremony and everything in-between that Sunshine Coast Marriages conjure up; flowers bring colour, life, and aroma to a wedding and make everything just a little more beautiful and memorable. I had the pleasure of chatting with a very good friend and colleague Rebecca Gabbey from the highly rated local business ‘Blooms of Noosa’. I have been lucky enough to work with Bec at numerous Noosa Wedding Ceremonies and I regularly point my brides who are planning Sunshine Coast Marriages in her direction, having complete confidence that they will receive the flowers to make their day absolutely perfect!
I thought it would be fun to ask Bec to share with me the following ideas and thoughts about floral loveliness for your big day:
- As a bride planning my wedding in Noosa, what advice can you give me for ordering my floral requirements?
Bec~Always choose seasonal availability blooms! They are at their peak and looking the best. Sometimes we can get imported items such as Peonies but they can be dicey because of the transport and handling and they end up either super expensive or dull.
Does my style of dress influence my bouquet choice in any way?
Bec~These days women know what looks good with their overall look and style and it’s the case of when most brides approach us they already have that down pat, very stylish women these days.
- What do I need to order for my bridal party
Bec~Definitely posies and/or hair blooms for Bridesmaids, a buttonhole for the men, a corsage for the ladies, Flower girl flowers to make them feel special, a buttonhole or/corsage for their celebrant, don’t forget Ushers and sisters and aunties who play a special part too.
- Who traditionally pays for the Wedding flowers?
These days a lot of couples go thirds with both parents.
- Do you have advice to help me choose my flowers
Pinterest, Facebook, Magazines … It is all there to see and research. Otherwise ask us and we will assist.
- What do I need to consider when ordering flowers for my arbour and reception?
Bec~Arbour, the structure to which the flowers will be applied, whether we have to do an installation or whether we can simply tie to an existing structure. Time consideration in doing this is a must.
Bec~Reception, floral arrangements that suit the restaurant, reception or house. Consider both low arrangements and above head height arrangements as well as budget.
- Are there any current bridal trends for marriage ceremonies on the Sunshine Coast?
Bec~At this time, 2017 is colour, colour, colour, foliage, foliage, foliages, gold, black, bronze vessels and hanging adornments. Hexagonal shapes. Clean cut décor. Simple yet stylish. Navy gowns for bridesmaids are making a comeback. Gorgeous stylised gowns with lovely full skirts and long arm sleeves in lace with sweetheart necklines. As well as hair blooms but not the halos or crowns, they are starting to dwindle.
- How are the trends different from years past?
Bec~The shape of bouquets is more relaxed and natural.
- I am a bride on a strict budget……. can you suggest some ways I can still have something lovely?
Bec~Seasonal flowers. Full stop. Go with one or two varieties so that we can buy in larger quantities.
(Also check out my previous blog with heaps of money saving ideas)
- Can you briefly describe a typical day in your floral life?
Bec~Processing our online orders, as well as answering phone calls for deliveries that day. Bridal quoting and receiving requests. If we have a wedding scheduled, we are either picking up stock, preparing the stock, then arranging the flowers and delivering /installing.
- Can you tell me a little about the preparation of a bridal bouquet?
Bec~Depending on the varieties we are styling, we need to prepare them, i.e. with Hydrangea we will need to hot water treat them. Roses, remove thorns and outer petals that protect the rose during transport. Allocating the stems and place cut into a vase, let them drink. Arrange. Then cut again to drink. Then dress them and have a final make over looking for blemishes and cut stems again to drink, placing into fridge.
Anything else that you think brides may like to/should know when ordering flowers with you for their Noosa Wedding?
Bec~Please have the absolute understanding that what you convey to us is what we will create. Trust us to make that job good, a job well done is a job that will make memories for all. We have your utmost best interests at heart and we know what will work and won’t. We particularly love a challenge to allow our creativity to come through!
